Template variables from many OpenNMS instances

Description

I have multiple instances of OpenNMS and I want to use a single dashboard to lookup resources across these.

I'd like to be able to:
A) Load the dashboard
B) Click in a single box to search the list of nodes
C) Have the panels filtered accordingly

I don't think we can do this with Grafana's built-in support variable support, but this would make a nice addition to the Filter panel.
We could wire the Filter panel into the Performance and Flow datasources, and have these support filtering for some known attributes like node (label, id, fs:fid), ip interface (ip, hostname).
