Status string collection, display within OpenNMS

Description

Certain status information is much more meaningful when collected, stored, processed and dsiplayed as a string. Examples are redundancy modes (protected, non-redundant) or internal state (OK, unknown, warning, alarm, critical etc) that the device may already collect and expose via SNMP or HTTP. We use some conversions to make these numerical today, but then another conversion is required by the used to deduce if 1=redundant, 3=critical etc. Simply collecting the string and displaying it, and comparing to known values for thresholds would avoid the used to look-up or remember the mapping.
This enhancements is to add string handling and display certain string information associated with nodes in map and node view of OpenNMS.

This issue appears to be a duplicate (at least in terms of incoming SNMP traps) of .

Can you clarify "add string handling and display certain string information"? Does this apply to anything besides events derived from SNMP traps?

It is very hard to understand what the actual requirement is here. Could you give a more specific and detailed example of what you want?
